Johannes Erler
Factor Design has existed for 5 years. We say 1st May 1993 is when it was founded. There were two of us when we started, Johannes Erler and Olaf Stein. Since then, the office has moved twice and grown continually: now there are ten of us, and more will be coming. We have also had a partner in San Francisco, Jeff Zwerner, for a year now.
Factor Design has always considered itself as a classic office for corporate design. We are not an agency specialising in image brochures, Internet sites or packaging and always try to explain to our clients how only a consistent overall identity is able to transport a quality image permanently. With this in mind, we create first-class bases, which weóor othersócan take up and develop further.
Factor Design believes in graphic design's integrative ability. Because graphic design can do far more than just make things pretty. Good design helps to promote better communication, and anyone who is able to look beyond the current uses of graphic design today, can imagine what that means. It is just this motivation that produced the idea for 'Neugierig' [inquisitive]. Of course, this is only a small step on the way, but progress is made little by little.
Among our clients are Römerturm Feinstpapier, C&A, MME (a television production company), Bauer & Partner (a software company) plus a number of smaller companies and institutions in addiction prevention, publishing or the Hamburg scene.
If competitions and annuals are anything to go by, then Factor Design has become one of the most successful design offices in Germany in recent years. For instance, Factor Design has just been presented with several awards by the Type Directors Club in New York for the fifth time running.
