typographic designs published quarterly by FontShop. It consists of a cardboard package containing
a floppy disk with experimental typefaces and five folded A2 posters. For each issue, London-based
editors Neville Brody, John Critchley
and Jon Wozencroft invite four internationally renowned typographers to design an exclusive font and
a poster showing the characters in a creative application. A fifth poster provides information about
the artists, the typefaces and the theme of the issue.

tendencies in the field of typography and graphic design. The worldwide interest in
led to an annual symposium. The first
international conference, held in
London in 1994,
was an enormous success - it proved to be one of the biggest design meetings in
the world. This year Berlin will host the 95
conference. In November hundreds of designers, typographic experts and students will meet in the former
East-Berlin district Mitte, now the very heart of the united city. In the middle of this gigantic urban
construction site, where past and future are merging,
-speakers will influence the next generation
of designers. Some 30 leading graphic designers and typographers from around the world will present their
styles of working and give lectures on the future of the written word in the digital age. Notwithstanding
the diversity of their positions, the lecturers have one thing in common: they all have contributed to
. The conference will be conducted in the
English language. The host of 96 will be
the city of Chicago.

During the three conference days,
editors will offer a guided tour through 's
history: All typefaces, posters, concepts
and ideas will be on display. In addition, students from Berlin, Düsseldorf, London and Vienna will
present art-school projects of their own.
Another exhibition will show successful -
inspired adaptations in graphic art and industrial design.

Another focus of interest will be the
laboratory, an experimental hands-on workshop offering a forum for discussion parallel to the conference.
All participants are invited to contribute their typographic ideas, either on computer or on paper. Many
95 speakers will be present during the
FUSELAB-sessions. Round-table discussions and lectures will also take place in FUSELAB. Using the Internet,
designers from around the world can follow FUSELAB activities and participate by making contributions of
their own.

Abstracts of lectures and FUSELAB results will be recorded live on the Internet. Moreover, designers from
around the world are offered the opportunity to participate virtually in
95. Contributions can also be transmitted

from around the world. During the conference, three exclusive
bonus fonts in PostScript format for the Mac and PC will be available without charge for
downloading.

The ultimate typographers' party will take place Saturday night, November 18, 1995,
in Berlin's leading music club. FUSENIGHT, the FontShop house party: surprise celebrity
guests, a performance by the Cyan-Group,
prizes, DJs, models,
music and dance. Admittance is free for 95
participants.
