The motto of this year’s TYPO design conference is “Passion”. The highlight of the final day of the conference is TYPOnight, which will be held this year in Goya. More than 1,000 professionals and students from the fields of design, graphic design, art and marketing will gather at Europe’s biggest design party!

TYPOnight begins at 10:00 pm on Saturday, May 22, at Goya. Formerly the New Theatre and later Club Metropol, the building that houses Goya is, along with the elevated subway station, one of the most striking buildings on Nollendorfplatz in Berlin’s Schöneberg district. It was built in 1905/1906 as a theatre and concert hall. The facade is a clear example of early modern design, while still retaining echoes of the Art Nouveau period that preceded it.

The house was initially a temple for the youngest muse and in the 1920s, it experienced its heyday as a cinema. After World War II, the renamed Metropol remained a cinema until 1977, when it became one of the city’s best-loved discos and concert venues. In 2005, under the watchful eyes of the media, it was turned into the upscale restaurant and dance club “Goya”. The refurbishment was overseen by architect Hans Kollhoff and cost € 11 million.

Tickets for TYPOnight cost € 15, reduced to € 10 with a flyer. Registered TYPO participants get in free.

Music on TYPOnight will come from DJ Atimot and ZOE.LEELA, AKA the “Kreuzberg Kid”. Zoe works independently and maintains her artistic freedom by using creative commons licensing. In keeping with her philosophy, her debut album “Queendom Come”, released in November 2009, is available to download for free on the Internet (via Rec72). It was downloaded 34,000 times in the first four weeks after its release. We are proud to announce that Zoe will present “Queendom Come” live at Goya as part of TYPOnight.
