Portrait Katrin Meyer
Katrin Meyer studied graphic design at the Academy of Design in Basel. She was a designer based in San Francisco (Barclays Global Investors), Barcelona (Joachim Müller-Lancé), and Berlin (atelier doppelpunkt and taz, the daily newspaper). Since 1998 she has had her own studio in Berlin (Meyer Visuelle Kommunikation), which she closed in 2008, to seek new challenges in Zürich/Switzerland. „Meyerland“, her book, will be published by Carlsen Verlag in August 2008.

Meyerland – Image of a name (G)

»Meyer« is a typical German name. It s spelled in various ways, and in spite of its popularity as a family name, typographers and designers have repeatedly tried to make it ›unique‹.  Katrin Meyer presents onomastic information, pictures and snapshots of »Meyer« inscriptions and lettering in the wild, on storefronts, nameplates, trucks and more. She creates a picture of how design and typography is dealt with in the German speaking realm.
